Westbourne is a charming coastal village brimming with character and a vibrant community spirit. Its appeal has drawn an eclectic mix of cosmopolitan restaurants, bars, cafés, delicatessens, and independent shops, all contributing to its unique atmosphere.
At the heart of Westbourne is the historic Westbourne Arcade, a Grade II Listed building that links Poole Road and Seamoor Road. Built between 1884 and 1885 by Henry Joy, the arcade is a beautiful example of well-preserved polychrome Gothic architecture. Its striking red-brick façades, Gothic-style windows, and intricate gargoyle drainpipes—rumoured to represent ancient water gods—give it a distinct, cathedral-like appearance. The arcade's glazed roof floods the interior with natural light, making it a bright and welcoming space year-round.
Today, the arcade houses a delightful array of quirky shops, cosy cafés, and even a tiny, 19 seat cinema! Visitors can enjoy browsing for unique gifts, stop by the traditional hardware store, or take in the fresh scents at the local florist.

Westbourne exudes a continental charm, especially during the warmer months when outdoor seating invites visitors to relax and soak in the atmosphere. In the winter, its cosy venues offer a warm retreat. With over 50 dining and drinking spots, you can savour global cuisines—whether it’s a classic British fish and chips at Chez Fred, or award-winning cheese and wine at Renoufs.
Westbourne’s lively bars and pubs cater to all tastes, from cocktails to craft ales, with a speciality gin bar for those looking for something different. Some venues also offer entertainment, from quiz nights and live music to wine tastings and film nights, ensuring there’s always something to enjoy in this unique village.
